🌟 Member Monday Spotlight: Kathy Hemmesch 🌟

This week, we’re shining our Member Monday spotlight on Kathy Hemmesch, a member who is always ready to jump in and lend a hand!

Kathy eagerly helps with events whenever she can, arriving early for setup and staying through cleanup. She has helped decorate the Hellings House for Fantasy Fest, the Fall Christmas Fair, and many other club celebrations, and she’s always happy to help with sales using Clover at our events.

As a member of the Marketing Committee, Kathy helps design and purchase some of the KWWC merchandise we sell. She has also engraved many of the wine glasses purchased by our members, created engraved awards, developed the Historic Days website, and helps keep the Key West Woman’s Club website up to date.

Kathy says the Woman’s Club has become a special part of her life, bringing wonderful new friendships and opportunities to enjoy everything from volunteering to social activities.

This week’s Member Monday shines the spotlight on Liz Calkins, a dedicated member whose enthusiasm and willingness to jump in wherever needed have made a wonderful impact on the Key West Woman’s Club.

Liz has been instrumental in planning, organizing, scheduling volunteers, and setting up our booths at the Farmers Markets and Artisan Markets, where members sell our Restaurant & Lifestyle Cards and other Key West Woman’s Club merchandise. She has also worked at many of these markets, helping connect with the community while supporting one of the club’s important fundraising efforts.

As a member of our Marketing Committee, Liz helps promote the club and its many programs and events. She has also volunteered behind the bar at several fundraising events, including the Bougie Tea Party and the Denim to Diamonds Gala, helping make these events both successful and enjoyable for our guests.

Liz generously donated her time and talent by creating and selling her beautiful recycled felted pillows at the Holiday Market, donating all of the proceeds back to the Key West Woman’s Club. She has also volunteered at Bingo events at Oasis and Poinciana Gardens, brought food for club meetings, and is always ready to lend a helping hand whenever it’s needed.

🌟 Member Monday Spotlight: Francine Gittins 🌟

Francine has enthusiastically embraced Key West life for the last 5 years—and all the wonderful activity that comes with being part of the Key West Woman’s Club.
Every Friday, you'll find her leading tours as one of our devoted docents — part of a fearless trio she affectionately calls "The Three Musketeers," alongside the wonderful Eileen Kawaler and Mary Means. As Francine tells it, she's "learning from the best" — though anyone who's heard the three of them spin the tales of Eleanor Hellings and the Curry family knows the students have become the teachers. All for one, and one for one more tour!

When she's not walking guests through the oldest brick home on the island, Francine has been spotted doing a little bit of everything for the club — running the bars at Fantasy Fest or serving them drinks over the railing, and countless other Key West happenings. (For the record: she does not drink on the job. Usually with her partner-in-crime Fran Decker keeping her honest.) She's also been known to help build party décor with Dee, PJ, and Paul — where, in her words, "Dee and PJ have the eye, and Paul and I just execute. I do what I'm told." A French woman who follows directions? Now that's a Key West miracle. 🇫🇷😉
She has dedicated several years to the KWWC Restaurant Card program, working tirelessly to contact restaurant owners and secure their renewals each year. She has also volunteered as an usher at the Wearable Art Fashion Show, welcoming guests & helping attendees find their seats.

But ask Francine what she loves most, and it's not the tours or the events — it's the people. She says she's met so many outstanding members that listing them all would take longer than the fire of 1886. And a special félicitations to our outstanding president, Aundrea, for leading this remarkable club.

This week we're excited to recognize Kathryn Norris, our new Director of Membership!

Kathryn is passionate about giving back to the Key West community. She is the co-founder of the Bougie Tea Party, a fundraiser benefiting Take Stock in Children, which provides scholarships to Key West High School students.

Within the Key West Woman's Club, Kathryn is always willing to lend a hand. She volunteers at Art in the Attic, has bartended at club events, hosted Wine & Wine in March, and attended this year's new member orientation to learn from Kim Gordon as she prepares to lead our membership efforts next season.

Kathryn is also a member of our Marketing Committee, helping share the many ways KWWC serves our community.

Through Norris Healthcare, one of our valued Business Members, Kathryn is donating an AED to the Key West Woman's Club. She is also coordinating volunteer training so members will know how to use the device, helping make our events even safer.

Each holiday season, Kathryn enjoys participating in our annual Bears project alongside her daughters, Kiki and Katie, helping decorate teddy bears that are donated to children and adults in need throughout our community.

Patty currently leads the Hellings Curry Museum Business Membership Program, helping build relationships with local businesses that support the preservation of our historic museum and clubhouse. Through her efforts, businesses have the
opportunity to partner with the Key West Woman’s Club and invest in the future of one of Key West’s most treasured historic landmarks.

Patty is also one of the founders of the Bougie Tea Party, an event that has raised significant funds to support Take Stock in Children and help local students achieve their educational goals.

For the summer, Cristina has taken on the important role of organizing and running BINGO at Poinciana Gardens, bringing fun, laughter, and connection to the residents each week.

Cristina is also a familiar face at many Key West Woman's Club events, generously volunteering her time at Conch Country Line Dancing, the Key West Artisan Market, and the Key West Songwriters Festival, just to name a few.

In addition to sharing her time, Cristina has provided delicious food for numerous events, including Membership Meetings, Art in the Attic, and Women & Wine gatherings.
